International Field Assembles For Junior Sydney Cup

Friday, September 29, 2017

The action packed Junior Sydney Cup is set to begin at Campbelltown City Bowl tomorrow with the historic tournament attracting an international field in its 41st year.

Following the tournaments success of producing world class bowlers, the 2017 edition will shape up to be one of the biggest Junior Sydney Cup’s, attracting bowlers from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and from right across Australia.

With the international field brimming with experience the best junior bowlers in Australia will be fighting to keep over $14,000 in cash and prizes in Australia whilst aiming to claim maximum rankings points in the final junior ranked event of 2017.

After claiming victory in 2016 Taniesha Griffiths and Josh Morris will return this weekend following their impressive performances last year. With both bowlers still searching for their first 2017 ranked victory the pair will be looking for a solid start when the tournament gets underway on Saturday morning.
Having tasted victory at the Werribee Youth Cup and Junior Melbourne Cup this year, Bernie Grueso Junior will join the field this weekend sitting on top of the junior boy’s rankings and only 20 points ahead of Queenslander, Kyle Annetts who has had an impressive year on the national circuit winning the Queensland Junior Cup and Australian Junior Masters.

In the girls division, Griffiths will face a field that won’t include dominant junior bowler Rebekah Commane and this will provide the opportunity for a number of girls in the field to claim top spot on the podium.

After finishing 3rd at this year’s SA Youth Masters and Queensland Junior Cup, Chloe Jones will be in for a chance to take her first win of the year. Another contender will be Jamie Phelan who finished second at the SA Junior Cup will make the trip to Sydney wanting to end the year on a high.

The tournament will see all the action begin with the Storm Super Skins on Friday night and will also feature the Under 13 Storm Cup and Storm Challenge alongside the Junior Sydney Cup.
