Belmonte Aiming for a Record 10th Title in Ohio

Tuesday, February 06, 2018

Being only one win away from equalling PBA greats Earl Anthony and Pete Weber for the most all-time major wins, is what faces Australia’s Jason Belmonte this week at the Tournament of Champions.

Being held at AMF Riviera Lanes at Fairlawn, Ohio, where the historic tournament was held from 1966 to 1994, Belmonte will have his own history on the line and memories of a record breaking 2017, where the Orange based bowler won three major crowns in the one calendar year, a feat no other bowler has ever achieved.

Adding to the interest at the TOC is that the Australian will also be gunning for a third TOC title and aiming to join the likes of Mike Durbin and Jason Couch as three-time TOC winners.  Belmonte won back-to-back TOC titles in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

While the Australian will be aiming to qualify for the match play rounds beginning on Thursday, the two hander will feature in the King of Bowling against American Wes Malott on Tuesday (local time) in a ground breaking live streaming event on Facebook live.  Having been voted by the PBA fans to end Malott’s reign on the title, Belmonte will go head to head with the American in a best of three game match to decide the champion.

While competition will get underway on Wednesday morning (local time), the TOC will mark the 60 year anniversary of the PBA tour and has attracted a star studded field including defending champion E.J Tackett and former winners of the tournament Jasper Svensson, Pete Weber, Norm Duke, Johnny Petraglia, Chris Barnes, Sean Rash and Tommy Jones.
