Frilingos Shoots for Another Tenpin Cup Title

Thursday, June 07, 2018

Australian bowling icon George Frilingos will return to the Melbourne Tenpin Cup this weekend with his sights firmly set on a fourth title at the historic ranked event.

Having claimed victory in 2017 by 53 pins over world number one, Jason Belmonte, Frilingos will return to Oz Tenpin Chirnside Park in search of his first ranked event title of 2018.

After finishing second at both the Kegel Qld Open and Australian Open, the Queensland bowler wonít have Belmonte or rankings pointsí leader Sam Cooley to compete with over the two days of competition but it wonít be any easier on the lanes for the veteran.|

Having teamed up during last yearís Rolliní Thunder series, fellow Queenslander and left hander Jarrod Langford will be one that Frilingos will have an eye on when qualifying starts on Saturday morning.

Having finished third at the Kegel Qld Open and off the podium at the Australian Open, Langford will be looking to turn his season around this weekend and show the Australian selectors why he should be on the plane for the menís World Championships in November.

Having won on the national circuit previously both Glenn Loader and Adam Hayes have the skills to trouble both Langford and Frilingos and a podium finish isnít out of the question for the experienced pair.

After finishing third at this event and winning two open ranked titles in 2017, Australiaís leading female bowler, Bec Whiting, has the game to take on the likes of Frilingos and Langford.  Having just returned from the US after competing at Queens, the Melbourne based bowler has had great preparation for the tournament and the $3000 winnerís cheque could be hers on Sunday afternoon for a third time.
