SA Junior Cup in Action This Weekend

Thursday, June 07, 2018

Entering its second year on the ranked event circuit the SA Junior Cup will play host to the best junior bowlers in the country this weekend.

Kicking off on Saturday morning at Bowland Salisbury all bowlers will line up for 10 games of qualifying with the top 12 males and top 8 females moving into stage two to fight for a place in the final.

Having finished second last year after leading qualifying local bowler Jamie Phelan returns.  After coming out of the blocks fast in qualifying Phelan made it through to the final to go down 195-180 to Emma Stephens.  Having tasted victory at this yearís Sydney Youth Cup and a second placing at the Werribee Youth Cup, a win this weekend could see the 17-year-old build a lead in the rankings with only two junior ranked events left in 2018.

Finishing in fourth last year Grace Fahy will return to Adelaide.  The Bendigo bowler finished third at the Werribee Youth Cup in March and will have the experience on the lanes to qualify for the final.
In the boys division Jordan Dinhamís name jumps out of the field.  Dinham won the Australian Junior Masters in April after a cliff hanger final.  The Tenpin City bowler also finished second at the Sydney Youth Cup and if his form continues at Bowland Salisbury another ranked event title could be within reach.

Australian representative Daniel Perrella will be another bowler lining up on Saturday morning.  Perrella hasnít managed a podium finish on the ranked event circuit this year following three attempts, but the 2017 Australian Asian Schools representative will be up the top come Sunday afternoon.

After finishing fourth, fifth and sixth last year Daniel Bourke, Josh Morris and Tarkyn Percy will return.  This year Percy, at the age of 12, became the youngest bowler in Australia to achieve an accredited 300 game.
