Monday, June 11, 2018

The weekend’s Schweppes Melbourne Tenpin Cup saw Jarrod Langford dominate the field early and finish the victor whilst defeating three time winner George Frilingos.

When qualifying began on Saturday morning, Langford (pictured) found his line early bowling games of 248, 258, 268, 258 and 256 in the first block to leap to the front with a handy lead.

In block 2, the North Queensland bowler continued his impressive form bowling games of 228, 226, 248, 279 and 269 to average 255 and increase his lead by 240 pins heading into stage two.

With the field cutting to the top 15 following 5 games in stage 2, Langford who had 2017 winner George Frilingos ready to pounce on any mistake, finished second in game one to take only 20 bonus pins.  In game two the 2017 Australian Open winner got the win to then finish second in games three and four.

With Frilingos edging closer Langford failed to gain any bonus points in match 5 but took 20 bonus pins in game 6.  With victory almost in the bag, Langford bowled 198 in the final game but it was enough to see him take the win with the fast finishing Frilingos in 2nd and 53 pins behind Langford.  2015 Australian Masters winner Glen Loader took home third place.

The ranked event also saw three perfect games bowled by Chris Castle, Gavin Bedford and Ryan Edgar all achieving the feat in qualifying on Day 1.
