Cooley & Whiting Battle It Out At SA Cup

Thursday, June 28, 2018

The 34th South Australian Cup this weekend marks the halfway point of the 2018 open ranked events and defending champion Bec Whiting will be competing for her first win in the 2018 open division.

Winning the SA Cup and the Gold Coast Cup in 2017, Whiting showed the best male bowlers in the country what she can do and this weekend the Victorian will have her best opportunity for the year so far to win an open title.

Taking home 100 rankings points at the Vic150, Whiting will face inform pro bowler Sam Cooley. After winning the Kegel QLD Open, Australian Open and the Philippine International Open in May the New South Welshman will come into the weekend following a win at the Suncity Open in Townsville on Sunday.

But local bowler Ashley Warren could be the bowler to crash the party for Cooley and Whiting. After a lean start to 2018, Warren will enjoy returning home and victory on Sunday will kick start his year.

Competition gets underway at Zone Bowling Cross Road on Saturday with all bowlers completing 10 games of qualifying. The tournament will then cut to the top 18 on Sunday with a further 8 games to decide the top 5 for the stepladder finals and the 2018 Champion.

For all the scores across the weekend keep an eye on or if you are in Adelaide head down to Zone Bowling Cross Road - Cross Rd, Westbourne Park to catch the action.
