Seniors Head to Adelaide This Weekend for SA Seniors Classic

Friday, April 26, 2019

The SA Seniors Classic beginning on Saturday morning will mark half way in the 2019 seniors ranked event circuit.

With valuable rankings points on offer at ZONE BOWLING - Cross Road this weekend, competitors will have 16 games to finish on top of their division.
After beginning the year on a high, by winning the Campbelltown Vintage Classic and Seniors Australian Open, Christine Clark will be looking to make it three in a row this weekend in the senior ladies division.

The tournament will also see defending champion, Mary Dodds return to South Australian to see if she can go back to back and win her first ranked event title of 2019 following two second placings at the Hammer Queensland Seniors Classic in January and at the Seniors Australian Open.

Both bowlers will be joined by a strong field which includes Queenslanders Tracey Crisp and Cheryl Womack.

In the senior menís division, 2018 winner Rob Kaluci will return to defend his title after winning it by 74 pins last year from Jim Karakostas. Kaluci will face plenty of competition with leading senior male bowler Andrew Thorpe competing.

In 2019, Thorpe has won the Campbelltown Vintage Classic and finished second at the Seniors Australian Open and a win this weekend could see the Victoria create a large gap between first and second in the rankings with only three events to be held following the weekend.

Sitting in third place on the rankings is Steve Lenton. Lenton will make the journey to Adelaide this weekend hoping to win his first ranked event of 2019. With the field also including Steve Smith and Mick Talevski the winner in the senior menís division could come from anywhere this weekend.

The grand senior menís division is also shaping up to be action packed. Defending champion Chris Benson will return to defend the title he won last year and the likes of Bob Whybrow, David Farquarson and Jim Karakostas will make back to back titles challenging for Benson.

In the grand senior ladies division, Sarah Knowland will be aiming for her third ranked event title win of 2018 but TBA Hall of Famer Ė Jeanette Baker will be competing and finds herself halfway through the season without a ranked event title next to her name. Having been the dominant bowler in the division for a number of years Baker will be focused on winning this weekend.

To catch any of the action this weekend head to ZONE BOWLING Ė Cross Road, Cnr Goodwood &, Cross Rd, Westbourne Park, Adelaide or keep an eye on www.tenpinresults.com.au for all the scores and standings.
