Percy & Fahy Join Illustrious Names after Winning 2019 Australian Junior Masters

Tuesday, April 30, 2019

At not yet 14 years of age, Tarkyn Percy has joined an illustrious list of winners of the Australian Junior Masters which includes Jason Belmonte, and in the girls division Grace Fahy’s name will be alongside winners such as Carol Gianotti and Bec Whiting.

With the event marking the conclusion of the 2019 Australian Championships at Oz Tenpin Chirnside Park, it was Percy who started fast out of the blocks, shooting 279, 300, and 199 in the Round 1 on Friday.

Tarkyn is the youngest ever bowler in Australia to bowl a recognised 300 game, doing so at the age of 12 years and 5 months at last year’s South Australian State Championships.  He went through to the final, after wins against Eamonn Coutts, Cameron Stein, Thomas Mitchell, Joshua Peck and Bernie Grueso Jnr.

Congratulations also to Bernie Grueso Jnr, who bowled a 300 in the third round of the event.

In the boy’s final, Percy met Jordan Dinham who won events on the open, youth and junior ranked events circuits in 2018.  In the opening match, Dinham took the honours winning 235-221.  In match two Percy struck back winning 255-234.  At one match all, Percy then stood up to win the third 225-215. But not giving in Dinham won the fourth with Percy saving a huge 263 game to win the fifth and final match and take the title at 14 years of age.

In the girls division, Grace Fahy dominated the final, winning 3-0 over Emily Bottomley to win the title.

In the lead up, Fahy had wins over Nicolle Ling, Maddisyn Lefevre, Sophie Martin and Tamika Pettigrew.  This saw Fahy to move into the final match against Bottomley, who had strong wins against Brooklyn Brooks and Allanah Woodfield.  In the opening game Fahy bowled an impressive 239 with Bottomley a 234.  One game up, Fahy kept the foot on the pedal winning match 2, 237-166 and the final game 218-178 to take out the 2019 Junior Masters title.
