Guide to Becoming a Bronze Coach

Overview

The Bronze coaching accreditation is the second level of accreditation within the TBA Coaching Framework. The Bronze course is a multi platform course including a face to face course, on lane practical assessment and online theory assessment.

Participants of the Bronze Coaching course will work with existing bowlers at an intermediate level - juniors, current league bowlers, local and some state representative teams. Bronze coaches will gain the knowledge and skills to develop their own coaching philosophy, find tune bowlers physical game, understand lane conditions and provide advice on ball selection. Bronze coaches are eligible to coach state teams at the restricted, seniors and people with a disability, National Championships.

Bronze coaches will be able to provide an open learning environment that includes, planned skill development, communication skills, development of competitive athletes and the understanding of rules and regulations within sport.

The Bronze program is for those who want to teach people the fundamentals of the sport on a more ongoing basis. Coaches will be competent in understanding the following topics:

  • Philosophy of coaching
  • Fine tuning the physical game
  • Lane conditions and adjustments
  • The mental game
  • Components of the bowling ball
  • Dynamics of ball motion
  • Videotaping
  • Video analysis
  • Giving a lesson

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must: 

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • hold a current TBA Membership
  • hold a current Working with Children check from their state of residence
  • Current TBA Level 1 Accredited Coach

Bronze Accreditation Check List

The enrolment process for Bronze Accreditation is (printable checklist):

  • Register or log into the ASC eLearning Portal
    • Community Coaching General Principles course
    • Play by the Rules Child Protection
    • Play by the Rules Harassment & Discrimination
  • Complete the:
    • Coach / Official Code of Ethics Individual Agreement (included in above link)
    • Personal Character Declaration for Coaches and Officials (included in above link)
  • Make payment
  • Suitable accreditation tag photos
    • Head and shoulders visable
    • plain background
    • no one / nothing visable in the photo
    • SMILE

All steps MUST be completed before attending face to face coaching course

  • Attend the practical certification course
  • Complete the online theory assessment through the USBC Online Learning Portal login information sent via email during the week following the course.
