The 2024 TBA National Youth Championships commence today at the AGL National High-Performance Centre on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

This year’s championships feature the exciting TBA21 National Teams Challenge, spanning two days from the 24-25 October, followed by the prestigious TBA21 National Masters, concluding the event from 26-27 October.

24-25 October 2024

This year’s TBA21 National Teams Challenge may have fewer participants, but the talent is undeniable. In the boy’s division, four teams—North Queensland, South Queensland, New Zealand, and Victoria—will go head-to-head for top honours. Meanwhile, the girl’s division will showcase a head-to-head battle between South Queensland and New Zealand.

The competition format includes 6 games each in singles and doubles across two days. The Teams event is spread over both days, with teams competing in 12 games of the Baker format (6 on each day). All-Events standings will be tallied for each bowler, contributing points towards their quest to be crowned male, female, and overall champions.

The top four performing bowlers from the challenge will be named All-Stars and receive automatic qualification to the second stage of the TBA21 National Masters as top seeds.

This will be the 20th running of the event with the first championships run in 2003.

26-27 October 2024

The TBA21 National Masters is the third of four nationally ranked events for the TBA Youth Division in 2024.

Stage 1 begins with bowlers playing 8 games in a single squad. The top 12 males and top 12 females, based on scratch pinfall, will advance to Stage 2, with pinfall carrying over. Additionally, the top four bowlers from the TBA21 National Teams Challenge will skip Stage 1, starting directly in Stage 2 as top seeds.

Stage 2 will bring together the top 4 from the Teams Challenge and the 12 qualifiers from Stage 1, forming a field of 16 bowlers. The group will be split into two groups of eight, where each bowler competes in 7 round-robin matches. Points will be awarded—3 for a win, 1 for a tie. The top two bowlers from each group will progress to the Final Four Semi-Finals.

Stage 3 will feature the semi-finalists in best-of-three matches, with the winners advancing to the final stage.

Stage 4 will see the two finalists battle it out for the title in another best-of-three series.
