2025 Brunswick Seniors Invitational Preview

This weekend, Bowlarama Wetherill Park in Greater Western Sydney will host the 2025 Brunswick Seniors Invitational, the fourth nationally ranked event of the senior division season and the first to be held in New South Wales this year.
Now in its third edition since debuting in 2023, the invitational continues to grow in prestige. With nearly 120 of the country’s top senior and grand senior bowlers set to compete, the stakes are high as bowlers chase critical rankings points with just two events left in the season.
Defending Champions and Rising Pressure
In the senior men’s division, all eyes will be on Ashley Riley. The Tasmanian legend has dominated this event since its inception, claiming back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. A third straight victory would cement Riley’s reign at Wetherill Park, but Queenslander Graham Morgan, currently topping the rankings with 196 points, will be eager to hold off Riley, who sits just behind on 176 points.
The senior female division promises an equally thrilling showdown. Western Australia’s Samantha Matthews and Victoria’s Dena Buxton are tied atop the standings on 200 points. Buxton, the two-time defending national rankings champion, and Matthews—both recently named to Australia’s squad for the upcoming IBF World Senior Championships in Reno—are sure to put on a show in a bid to justify their selection.
Grand Seniors Watch
In the grand senior women’s division, Heather Robertson enters the weekend with an astonishing perfect 300 rankings points from three events. She’ll look to keep the streak alive as challengers aim to finally break her winning run.
Meanwhile, in the grand senior men’s division, Jim Bakirtzidis holds a strong grip on first place with 280 points, but with Jim absent from this weekends event and a deep field on his heels, anything can happen!
Event Format
The invitational sticks with a classic, no-frills format:
- All bowlers will compete across 18 games over two sessions in their respective squads.
- After all games are complete, the highest total pinfall in each division determines the champions.
