2026 Wyncity Youth Cup Preview

The 2026 Wyncity Youth Cup heads to Wyncity Keon Park in Thomastown, Victoria this weekend, kicking off the 2026 TBA Youth Division nationally ranked season with Australia’s best young bowlers set to compete for the first ranking points of the year.
Now in its 23rd edition, the Wyncity Youth Cup is one of the most storied events on the youth calendar and has long served as a launching pad for some of the sport’s biggest names. Popularity of the event continues to take strides with a sold-out capacity of 56 bowlers lining up for the first event of the year.
What’s at Stake? The winner will claim the first Youth Division title of the 2026 ranked season and take an early lead in the race toward the 2026 TBA Youth Division national rankings title. The champion in each division also takes home $1,000 and a trophy.

Key Storylines to Watch
Defending Champions Return
Both Seth Gray and Emily Hinspeter return to the venue where they claimed their 2025 titles, with plenty of motivation to go back-to-back. Gray was unbeatable in last year’s matchplay phase, winning all five games to claim the crown with a stunning final-game 244. Hinspeter staged a dramatic late charge in the female division, overtaking Samantha Clifton in the final game to win by just 14 pins.
Clifton’s Redemption
Samantha Clifton led qualifying and Stage 2 in 2025 before being pipped at the post in the final game. The New South Wales back-to-back Youth Division rankings champion arrives with unfinished business and will be one of the most dangerous competitors in the female draw.
The Dinham Factor
With both Julian and Justin Dinham in the male field, the event is set to feature two of Australia’s most exciting young talents. Julian led qualifying last year and finished third overall, Justin was runner-up. Either could go one better this year.
New Champions Possible
The matchplay format means the leaderboard can shift dramatically in the final stage – as it did in 2025. Athletes who qualify in the top six have every chance, regardless of where they sit heading into the final day. The field is chock full of High Performance Squad members, looking to begin their 2026 campaign on the right foot. The event has historically served as a proving ground for athletes who go on to represent Australia at the international level.
The Rankings Race Begins
As the first event of the 2026 Youth Division ranked season, the Wyncity Youth Cup sets the tone for the entire year. An early title here sends a clear message to the rest of the field. With Australian selection due in coming weeks for the 2026 IBF Youth Would Championships, bowlers will be keen to perform strongly attracting the eye of selectors.
Format
Day 1
All competitors will bowl 12 games in 2 separate 6-game blocks. The Top 12 boys and Top 12 girls after 12 games of qualifying will progress to Sunday’s Elimination Round.
Day 2
With pinfall carried over, the Top 12 Boys and Top 12 Girls will bowl an additional 5 more games. The Top 6 Boys and Top 6 Girls with the highest pinfall after 17 games will progress to stage 3.
Stage 3
Top 6 Boys and Top 6 Girls will bowl 5 games of Matchplay. Bonus 30 pins for a win, 15 pins for a draw. The Boy and Girl with the highest total pinfall plus bonus pins after all 3 stages will be declared the 2026 Wyncity Youth Cup Champions.
