A Special Act of Kindness to Close Out the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships
As we near the end of our coverage for the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships, we want to highlight a touching moment that reflects the true spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie within our bowling community.
Many of you may know Connor Frith, a familiar face at Australia’s nationally ranked events. Connor travelled to Bangkok with his New Zealand team, set to compete in this year’s tournament. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving, Connor fell critically ill with a pneumonia-like condition, requiring hospitalisation. He was intubated and placed on a course of strong antibiotics to fight the illness.
In a heartwarming gesture, Jarrod Langford launched an initiative to lift Connor’s spirits. Jarrod donated one of his medal-winning shirts and, in between matches, worked tirelessly to collect signatures from the entire Team Australia as well as at least one bowler from every competing country.
Yesterday, members of the Australian team, some of whom had been visiting Connor over the last couple of weeks, presented him with the shirt. As Team Manager Adam Spencer put it, this is the kind of thing that truly shows what makes Aussies, Aussies.
Get Well Soon, Connor!
We are all wishing Connor a full and speedy recovery, and we hope this small act of kindness brings a smile to his face. Moments like these remind us of the power of unity and support within the bowling family.

Team Australia’s Campaign Concludes at the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships
Team Australia’s journey at the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships has officially come to a close today, following a tough day on the lanes for Jarrod Langford in the final block of the Men’s Masters event.
Starting the day in 4th place, just 25 pins from the top 3 cutline, Jarrod had already bowled 32 games across singles, doubles, trios, teams and the first block of the master’s. However, fatigue seemed to take its toll as he struggled to secure a win in his final seven head-to-head matches, despite some strong scores. In fact, luck wasn’t on his side, with Jarrod losing a game despite shooting an impressive 244 in the final match.
Heading into the 16th and final game of the event, the positional round, in 11th place, Jarrod bowled one more time to close his remarkable campaign, scoring 219. He finished the Masters event with a total of 3,419 over 16 games, securing 7th place. Although he missed the top 3 stepladder, his performance throughout the tournament has been nothing short of exceptional.
It has been an incredible campaign for the King of the North. Jarrod’s Championships began with a bang, winning a silver medal in the Men’s Singles event, where he bowled the tournament’s only 300 game. His consistent high scores across events led him to a bronze medal in the Men’s All-Events, becoming the first Australian to medal in the All-Events category since the 15th edition in 1998, when Michael Muir (silver) and Cara Honeychurch (gold) won medals.
Tenpin Bowling Australia congratulates Jarrod for his outstanding performance at this year’s Championships. The entire bowling community is proud of his achievements, and we look forward to seeing more from him in the future.
Jarrod will receive his bronze medal for the Men’s All-Events tonight, following the conclusion of the Masters stepladder finals. The medal ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 pm AEST, and we’ll be sure to share any photos received tomorrow.
Following the end of the master’s event, this marks the end of Australia’s participation at this year’s Championships, and we extend a big congratulations to all the athletes who proudly donned the green and gold. They represented Australia with class, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the tournament. Great job Aussies!

Final Day of Competition at the 27th Asian Championships – Master’s Event Concludes
Welcome to Day Nine of the official events at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Today marks the final day of competition, with the second and last block of the Master’s event.
Jarrod Langford returns to the lanes at 12:00 pm AEST, following a strong first block where he secured 5 wins out of his first 8 games, finishing the day in 4th place. Sitting just 25 pins behind bronze, Jarrod is well-positioned to challenge for a top 3 spot and earn his place in the stepladder finals.

Day One of Men’s Masters Event: Jarrod Langford in Strong Position Heading into Final Day
The first block of the Men’s Masters event at the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships has concluded in Bangkok, Thailand, with Australian Jarrod Langford sitting in a strong position as he heads into day two.
Already having won a silver medal in the men’s singles event coupled with the tournament’s only 300 perfect game and finishing the championship events with a bronze in the men’s All-Events, it has been a whirlwind championship for the King of the North. His confidence was clear, having averaged 216.13 through his 24 games across singles, doubles, trios, and the team of five event.
Jarrod started the Masters event with a solid 214 but unfortunately missed out on the 10 bonus pins after losing his first match. However, he quickly bounced back in game two with a win and began a brilliant streak of four consecutive victories, collecting those all-important 10 bonus pins in each game.
His string of wins included impressive games of 232, 239, 236, and 212. Despite losing games six and seven with scores of 200 and 229, Jarrod finished strong with a 226 in his final game of the day, securing his 5th win.
At the end of block one, Jarrod finished with a total of 1,838 pins, putting him in 4th place, just 25 pins shy of the top three who will advance to the stepladder finals. Averaging 223.50 over the first eight games, Jarrod is in a great position to challenge for a spot in the finals as the tournament continues tomorrow.
What’s Next:
Block two will see the final seven head-to-head matches, followed by a 16th positional round game to determine the final standings. The top three bowlers after 16 games will advance to the stepladder final to decide the medal winners.
A Look Back: The Bronze Medal in All-Events
A key moment that wasn’t fully highlighted in Jarrod’s bronze medal performance in the All-Events was just how close it came. Throughout most of the competition, Jarrod sat in silver medal position, especially after his incredible 300 game in the singles event.
However, a tough Team of Five event left his medal hopes in question, as he and Team Australia anxiously watched Korea’s Park Dong Hyuk threaten to overtake him in the standings. Needing two strikes and a 9 in the final frame to surpass Langford, Park delivered a strike on his first ball.
The tension was high as Park prepared for his second ball. He missed the second delivery, sealing Jarrod’s place on the podium for the bronze medal. Welcome to Day Eight of the official events at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand!
Jarrod Langford has qualified for the Masters event following his outstanding All-Events performance, which saw him capture the bronze medal in the men’s All-Events competition. His consistent showing across the championship has earned him a spot among the top bowlers to compete in the prestigious Masters event.
The All-Events standings, which include performances from the singles, doubles, trios, and team of five events, have been finalized. Here are Team Australia’s finishing places:

Final Block of Women’s Team Event Concludes with Team Australia in 10th Place at the 27th Asian Championships
The final block of the Women’s Team event wrapped up tonight, with Team Australia maintaining their 10th place finish at the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
In a strategic shift, the coaches made a lineup change for the second block. Hannah Clark was introduced into the squad, replacing Alicia Melton for the final three games of the teams event. The coach decision was repaid with faith quickly by Hannah who delivered a solid 201, the second-highest score of the game behind Bek Martin, who led with a 223. Bek has been a standout performer, entering today’s play in 26th place in the All-Events standings, just 54 pins shy of the Masters cutline. The team’s first game score of 975 helped maintain their 10th place standing.
In game two, the team posted a total of 938, with Bek Martin once again leading the way with a 213. Australia held firm in 10th place heading into the final game. The third and final game saw the Aussies finish with 870, keeping their overnight 10th position. Jamie Phelan top-scored with 203, wrapping up the Women’s Team event.
The conclusion of the Women’s Team event also finalises the All-Events standings for the women. Bek Martin had an impressive campaign but missed out on the Masters cutline by just 38 pins, finishing in 19th place with a total of 4,767. Bec Whiting was the next best for Australia, finishing in 41st place with 4,535 pins.

Day seven of the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships was all about wrapping up the Team of Five event, with the Aussie men hitting the lanes first.
Entering the second block in 6th place, Australia started nervously in game 4. Blayne Fletcher top-scored with 196, but the team only managed a total of 903, dropping them to 9th place.
Just like yesterday, the team bounced back in game two, posting an impressive 1,067. Jarrod Langford led the charge with a huge 266, supported by Chris Castle (234) and Blayne Fletcher (218). This surge brought the team up to 7th place, still 193 pins away from a medal with one game remaining.
Despite a strong final game, the gap to the medal line remained, with Blayne Fletcher again leading the group with 225, for a total of 942 in game six, finishing the event in 9th place.
A positive outcome from the team event was the All-Events standings, where Jarrod Langford secured bronze with a total of 5,187 pins across the tournament, averaging 216.13. This is Jarrod’s second medal at these Championships, after his silver in the singles event.

Jordan Dinham slipped to 31st place after a tough team event, while Chris Castle, who averaged 205.75 for the tournament, finished in 23rd place, just 91 pins short of the Masters cutline.

Team Australia Makes Strong Start in Block 1 of the Team of Five Event at the 27th Asian Championships
Team Australia went into block 1 of the Team of Five event with confidence, kicking things off with a strong opening game that set up a brilliant block of bowling for the Aussies.
A key reason for this confidence? Jarrod Langford, the “King of the North.” Currently sitting second in the All-Events standings, Langford has been a standout throughout the campaign, proving himself as one to watch for the upcoming Masters event.
The team’s confidence was validated after game one, as the Aussies came out firing, securing second place with a fantastic total of 1,110. The boost didn’t just come from Langford’s presence but from the entire team stepping up. Blayne Fletcher led the way with a 236, followed by Jordan Dinham with 235, Scott Robertson with 228, Chris Castle with 213, and Langford rounding out the team with 198.
Unfortunately, game two presented more challenges, as the team struggled across the board, finishing with a total of 842, which dropped them down to 11th place.
Motivated to keep their medal hopes alive, the boys bounced back in game three, returning to the quality of their first game. Jarrod Langford led with a 242, paired with 222 games from Chris Castle and Jordan Dinham, and a 207 from Blayne Fletcher. The team finished with 1,075, climbing back up to 6th place, just 54 pins behind the bronze-medal position held by Hong Kong, China.
Jordan Dinham was the top performer for the Aussies, averaging 211.33, followed closely by Chris Castle with an average of 208.33.
In the pacer squad, Callum Borck delivered a solid performance, finishing with a total of 596, highlighted by a 212 in game two.
All-Events Check:
- Bek Martin continues to lead the Aussie women, currently in 23rd place with 4,146, just 54 pins away from the top 16 cutline.
- Bec Whiting has jumped to 37th place, with a total of 3,998.
For the men:
- Despite a hiccup in game two, Jarrod Langford remains in second place in the All-Events standings.
- Jordan Dinham has moved closer to the top 16, sitting in 18th place, just 8 pins away from the cutline.
- Chris Castle is in 25th place, only 59 pins back, while the other Aussies are also improving their positions daily.

Team Australia’s Women complete first block in Team of Five event at the 27th Asian Championships
Team Australia’s Women have finished their first block in the Team of Five event at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
With three games today and three tomorrow, the team aimed to make a strong start, setting up an opportunity to push toward the medal line on day two.
The women’s team lineup consisted of Jamie Phelan, Jenny Notman, Alicia Melton, Bek Martin, and Bec Whiting. Hannah Clark also bowled in a pacer team to complete her 24 games for the Championships.
Victorian Bek Martin, sitting in 25th place in the All-Events standings prior to today’s play and performing the strongest for the Aussie women, continued her excellent form as the event got underway. Leading the charge in game one, Bek Martin shot a 231, with her Bec Squared counterpart Bec Whiting adding a solid 204. The team finished with 910 in the first game, placing them in 10th place.
Struggling to find their rhythm in game two, the team posted a total of 869, with no bowler surpassing the 200 mark, causing them to slip slightly in the standings.
The team bounced back in game three, scoring their highest total of the event so far with 942. Bec Whiting top-scored with 208, followed closely by young gun Jamie Phelan, who shot 203. The team ended the first block with a total of 2,721, staying in 10th place at the close of the first day.
The Bec Squared duo of Bek Martin (195.67) and Bec Whiting (194) were the top performers for the Aussies in the block. The team sits just 251 pins shy of the current 3rd place, giving them confidence heading into day two to make a push up the standings.
Hannah Clark finished her three-game block in Makeup Team number 2 with an average of 173.67.
In the All-Event’s race, today’s performances only shifted placings ever so slightly with Bek Martin dropping one place but only still shy of the cut-line by 54 pins while Bec Whiting moved one spot up, now 202 pins away from the cutline.

Today, the Team of Five event kicks off with the first of two blocks scheduled. Both the women’s and men’s teams will compete in their respective blocks as the Championships draw closer to their conclusion.

Aussies Battle Hard as Trios Event Concludes at the 27th Asian Championships
The third event of the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, concluded tonight, with the Trios event finishing its final block of three games.
Starting in 9th place with a block 1 score of 1,827, the trio of Jarrod Langford, Blayne Fletcher, and Jordan Dinham returned on day two with determination.
Leading the charge was two-hander Blayne Fletcher, who delivered a personal best, shooting an impressive 257 in game one. Fellow Queenslander Jarrod Langford followed with a 225, while Jordan Dinham chipped in with a 202. Their combined score of 684 was the highest of any Australian trio in the event, launching them into second place in the squad, just 80 pins behind the leaders from Korea.
However, momentum stalled in game two, as the trio struggled to find consistency, finishing with a team total of 530, which dropped them to 4th place.
In the final game, Jarrod Langford led the push with a strong 245, helping the team post a total of 608. Langford continued his excellent form, averaging 210.7 for the event. The trio wrapped up their block with a total score of 3,649, finishing 6th in the squad.
After two squads, Team Australia battled valiantly throughout finishing 10th (Chris Castle, Callum Borck, Scott Robertson) and 12th (Jarrod Langford, Blayne Fletcher, and Jordan Dinham) in the combined standings.
As the third event wraps up, attention now turns to the All-Events standings. With the master’s qualification line in sight, Bek Martin currently sits in 25th place, just 52 pins outside the top 16, while Bec Whiting, after a tough trios event, sits in 41st, trailing by 195 pins. There’s still plenty of time to make a move in the final event.
On the men’s side, Jarrod Langford holds steady in second place, continuing his outstanding form. Jordan Dinham remains close to qualifying, sitting just 12 pins outside the top 16 in 19th place, while Chris Castle is in 26th, only 54 pins behind the cutline.
It may not have been Team Australia’s day today, but there’s still everything to play for as the team looks ahead to the Team of Five event, the final event of the Championships. Lineups and lane assignments will be shared tomorrow morning.

After the Trios event, the Aussie women have extended their lead over New Zealand, with Australia now ahead by 799 points:

First Men’s Squad completes Block 2 of Trio Event
It was the men’s turn to hit the lanes at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl in Bangkok, as Squad 2 became the first of the two Australian men’s trios to complete their second block of three games.
After an impressive first block that saw them finish 5th overall, the trio of Chris Castle, Scott Robertson, and Callum Borck returned for their final three games on Saturday afternoon.
As he has throughout much of the campaign, Chris Castle led the way in game one, bowling a solid 222. However, the trio was limited to a combined 546, causing them to slip down the standings.
Determined to make a quick comeback, the Aussies fired back in game two with some of their best individual scores of the tournament. Callum Borck posted a tournament-high 247, paired with a 238 from Scott Robertson, resulting in a team total of 664 and propelling them back into 5th place.
With just 117 pins separating them from a medal position, the team had everything to play for in the final game. Callum Borck kept his strong form going, bowling 216, while Chris Castle returned to above par form with a 202, resulting in a combined 590.
The trio finished their event with a total of 3,657, securing 6th place in the squad. Chris Castle was the top performer, averaging 210.83, while Callum Borck and Scott Robertson both posted solid averages of 199.
Next up is the trio of silver medal singles winner Jarrod Langford, along with Blayne Fletcher and Jordan Dinham.

Team Australia Women finish Trio’s Event
The order of play was flipped on day two of the Trios event, with the ladies taking to the lanes first. With three games down and three to go for all squads, both Australian teams fought hard.
The Alicia and Bec Squared trio climbed up one spot after their first game, scoring 570 to sit in 13th place, with Bek Martin leading the charge once again, posting a solid 215. Meanwhile, the trio of Jenny Notman, Hannah Clark, and Jamie Phelan continued to hold 21st place, scoring 460 in game one.
A few position swaps occurred in game two, with Alicia and Bec Squared slipping a few spots after scoring 528, while Jenny, Hannah, and Jamie remained steady in 21st place after posting a 545. The final game saw the Alicia and Bec Squared trio deliver their best score of the day with 608, finishing the block with a total of 3,447, securing 13th place.
Bek Martin was the standout performer, averaging 207.67 across the event, making her the best-performing bowler among both trios. The trio of Jenny, Hannah, and Jamie stayed in 21st place after a final game score of 556, ending on a total of 3,125.
The focus now shifts to the team of five event, set to begin tomorrow. After a strong showing in the Trios event, Bek Martin has climbed to 25th place in the All-Events standings, just 52 pins shy of the top 16, which will advance to the Masters.
The race for the single Oceania spot in next year’s World Championships between Australia and New Zealand has tightened after the Trios event, with Australia leading New Zealand by just 799 pins.

Block 1 of Trio’s Event in the Books
The third squad of the Trios event for the day belonged to the women’s division, where 28 trio teams battled in the first of two blocks in the Women’s Trios event.
One trio featured the dynamic duo Bec Squared—Bec Whiting and Bek Martin—alongside Queensland’s Alicia Melton, while the second trio was comprised of Jenny Notman, Jamie Phelan, and Hannah Clark.
In game one, both trios started with similar scores. Jenny Notman, Hannah Clark, and Jamie Phelan finished with a combined 541, placing them in 15th position, while the Alicia, Bec Squared trio shot 531, placing them in 17th. Despite the standings, the first team was only 96 pins away from the top 3 with two games to go.
In game two, Bek Martin led the charge with a 225, and Alicia Melton followed closely with a 216, propelling the Alicia, Bec Squared trio to a combined 629, moving them up six spots to 11th place. Meanwhile, Jenny, Jamie, and Hannah struggled, finishing the second game with 460, which dropped them to 21st place.
For the final game of the day, both Australian teams bowled together on lanes 5 and 6, sharing the stream. The Alicia, Bec Squared trio slipped to 14th place after finishing with a combined 551, with Bek Martin again leading the way, posting a 212 to average 206 for the block. Jenny, Jamie, and Hannah finished strong with 563, maintaining their spot in 21st.

Strong Start for Aussie Trio
The second squad of the Men’s Trios event was up next, with Chris Castle, Scott Robertson, and Callum Borck donning the green and gold for Team Australia.
Chris Castle got the team off to a strong start, shooting an impressive 230 in game one, continuing his excellent form throughout the campaign. The team posted a combined 613 pins in the first game, placing them 5th in the squad.
Momentum built in game two, with Scott Robertson leading the charge by scoring 227. All three Aussie bowlers surpassed the 200 mark, resulting in a total of 645 pins for the game. This performance lifted them to 4th place, just 90 pins behind the first-place team from Korea.
In the final game of the block, Scott Robertson and Chris Castle kept the fire going, both shooting 224 to close out the block with a combined 599. This strong finish propelled the team to 2nd place in the squad.
Their overall performance placed them 5th on the combined leaderboard, giving them the best start among the Aussie men. Meanwhile, the first Australian trio of Jarrod Langford, Blayne Fletcher, and Jordan Dinham finished in 9th place after their first block.
Both men’s teams will rest tonight, preparing to make a major play tomorrow as they head into the second block of three games.
Next up is the women’s Trios event, with both Australian teams set to bowl in one squad from 7:10 pm – 9:40 pm AEST.

Block 1 of Trio’s Event Finished for Squad 1
Team Australia has begun their Trios event today at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand!
The Trios event will follow the same format as other events, with six games total, but with one difference being that it will be spread across two blocks of three games over two days. The men’s division features two squads, while the women will compete in one squad.
The men kicked things off in Squad 1, with an impressive showing from the trio of Jarrod Langford, Blayne Fletcher, and Jordan Dinham. They burst out of the gates with a combined 660 in game one, marking the second-highest game of the squad, just behind Qatar. Leading the way was Jordan Dinham, who posted a solid 245 in the first game.
After a challenging game two, the Aussies bounced back with a strong performance in game three, shooting a combined 626. Jordan Dinham led the charge, finishing with a total of 650 and an average of 216.67 over the three games.
The team wrapped up their block with a total of 1,827, sitting in 5th place in the squad standings after the first three games.
Next up, Men’s Squad 2 will take to the lanes, with Chris Castle, Scott Robertson, and Callum Borck set to represent Team Australia.

Two events down, two to go!
The second official event of the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships is now complete, with the Doubles event wrapping up tonight.
In the final squad for the Women’s division, Jenny Notman and Alicia Melton represented Australia. Despite a slow start, the duo had success from game three onwards, delivering personal bests for the tournament.
Queenslander Alicia Melton improved significantly from her Singles performance, shooting a tournament-best 236 in game three, followed by a 223 in game four. Uplifted by her partner’s performance, Jenny Notman delivered her tournament high of 222 in game four, giving the team a combined squad-high of 445 for that game, the second-highest in the squad.
The pair finished with a total of 2,221, securing 7th place in the squad and 23rd overall.

In the Men’s division, Chris Castle from Victoria and Callum Borck from Western Australia competed in the final squad. While the duo had a slow start, Chris Castle turned things around from game three, shooting 202, 217, and 217 to maintain his impressive campaign after finishing 15th overall in the Singles event.
Callum Borck struggled early but found his rhythm in game five with a 209, followed by a 201 in game six—perhaps a sign of what’s to come, with plenty of bowling left. The pair finished with a total of 2,279, placing 13th in the squad and 42nd overall.

At the conclusion of the Doubles event, the first medal ceremonies took place, honouring podium finishers from the Singles and Doubles events.
One of those medalists was Jarrod Langford, “King of the North.”
Jarrod delivered a spectacular performance in the Singles event, finishing second overall and capping off his six-game block with the tournament’s only 300 game.
Jarrod continued to excel in the Doubles event, averaging 223.83 over his six-game block. His consistent performances in both the Singles and Doubles place him at number two on the All-Events leaderboard, just 20 pins behind the leader from Malaysia, Rafiq Ismail.

Two events down, two to go before the Master’s event begins.
The top 16 bowlers on the All-Events leaderboard will qualify for the Master’s event, which begins next Tuesday.
After two events, Jarrod Langford is firmly in the top 16, with Jordan Dinham and Chris Castle within 100 pins of the cutline. Bec Whiting is the best-performing Aussie in the women’s division, sitting in 23rd place, with several other Australians not far behind.
Tomorrow, Team Australia will compete in the Trios event (three-person teams). The coaching staff is finalising the team combinations for the six-game event, and we will update the hub with all the formations and lane assignments tomorrow morning. The first squad is set to begin at 12:00 pm AEST.
Teams will complete two blocks of three games each over two days of play, with one squad for the women and two for the men. The event will conclude on Saturday night, just before the Team of 5 event begins on Sunday.

As the race for the exclusive spot at the 2025 IBF World Championships between Australia and New Zealand continues, here’s an update after the Doubles event. A reminder: the country with the highest combined total score for its top 5 bowlers in each division will qualify for the World Championships.

Aussies perform strongly in Doubles Squad 3
Two pairs of Team Australia have completed their six games in the Doubles event, with Squad 3 concluding this afternoon.
In the women’s division, the “Bec Squared” duo of Bec Whiting and Bek Martin represented the Aussies. They finished with a combined total of 2,391, securing third place in their squad. The bowlers from Zone Bowling Frankston in Victoria performed strongly, improving their scores from the Singles event, with Bec Whiting averaging 200 and Bek Martin averaging 198.5. Their combined total currently places them in 6th place on the Women’s Combined Doubles Leaderboard.

For the men, silver medalist Jarrod Langford teamed up with his good friend and fellow Queenslander Blayne Fletcher. The pair finished third in the squad, which places them 11th overall in the Men’s Combined Doubles Leaderboard.

As mentioned previously, the fourth and final squad for the singles event gets underway at 12pm AEST.

Langford bowls Perfectly to end Magical Performance in Men’s Singles Event
Welcome to day two of the official events at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
Today, the singles competition continues and concludes with squad 3 scheduled to get underway from 12:00pm AEST. No Australian’s will be participating, but all eyes will be on the results as we wait to see if Jarrod Langford hangs on for a medal after a magical performance in the men’s singles event.

Aussies perform Strongly in Squad 1 of Singles Event
Team Australia has officially commenced their campaign at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships today at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl in Ratchayothin.
The first event of the Championships, the Singles competition, was the focus today, with bowlers placed into one of four squads to complete their six-game totals.
In the first squad, Hannah Clark and Jamie Phelan represented the Aussies in the women’s division, while Blayne Fletcher and Chris Castle took to the lanes in the men’s division.
Both Hannah Clark and Jamie Phelan made their debut in an Open division event for Australia, with Hannah finishing 18th with a 956 series, and Jamie securing 5th place with a strong 1,186 total. South Australian Jamie Phelan averaged 197.67, finishing 103 pins behind Malaysia’s Gillian Lim Siew Giok, who led the squad.
The men’s performance in Squad 1 was equally impressive, with both bowlers finishing in the top six. Victoria’s Chris Castle finished 4th with a 1,281 series, only 62 pins behind the top scorer, Jomond Chia from Singapore. Blayne Fletcher followed closely, finishing with 1,225 and an average of 204.17. Chris Castle showcased his consistency with a standout 257 game to close out his six-game block, averaging 213.5 overall.
Squad 2 is now on the lanes and is scheduled to finish at 8:10 pm AEST tonight.

Next up in Squad 3, we’ll see Bec Whiting and Bek Martin suit up for the Aussies in the women’s division, while Jarrod Langford and Scott Robertson will represent the men.

The fourth and final squad of the Singles event will be bowled tomorrow morning, with no Australians participating. Immediately after, the Doubles event will begin, with medal presentations for both the Singles and Doubles events scheduled for Thursday after the conclusion of the fourth Doubles squad.
We’ll provide a recap tomorrow morning on the hub with a summary of how Squad 2 and 3 performed in the Singles, and we’ll also share the Doubles pairs decided by the coaching and management personnel on the ground.

Today, the singles competition begins with Squads 1, 2, and 3 scheduled to hit the lanes. Team Australia will make their debut at 12:00 pm AEST with Squad 1, and all Australian bowlers will complete their six-game singles event by the end of the day.
Two of Team Australia’s bowlers, both men and women, will compete in three of the four scheduled squads, which are set to conclude on Wednesday. All athletes will be competing on the Long Oil Pattern for the singles event.

27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships Commences
Team Australia was officially welcomed to the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, today following the Opening Ceremony.
Victorian and experienced Australian campaigner Bec Whiting proudly carried the Australian flag during the Opening Ceremony at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl in Ratchayothin.
Australia is one of 20 federations competing at this year’s Championships, and one of only two from the Oceania region, alongside New Zealand. With the event also serving as a qualification event for the 2025 IBF World Championships, Australia and New Zealand will be battling to secure the one spot available for Oceania at the World Championships. Following the welcome, Australia was treated to a welcome reception with meals before gearing up for their official practice session, with three squads scheduled for the afternoon.
Team Australia’s Adam Spencer made his debut in the Australian Manager role yesterday at the Team Managers Meeting. The athletes were confirmed during the meeting, with a total of 119 men and 80 women competing for glory at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships.
Two oil patterns—a Medium and a Long—were confirmed for this year’s Championships. As is often the case at such tournaments, a few changes were made to the schedule after the arrivals were confirmed. The updated schedule can be viewed on ABF HQ here.
Team Australia will now rest up with a team meal and get some sleep as they prepare for the Championship events to officially begin tomorrow, with Singles first on the agenda.
We’ll provide updates on who is bowling in which squads tomorrow morning, with action set to kick off at 12:00 pm AEST. Both men and women will compete together, with four squads in total planned for the Singles event, which will conclude on Wednesday afternoon.

Aussies Land in Thailand for 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships

Team Australia have arrived safely in Bangkok, Thailand for the 27th running of the famous championships over the weekend. You can read the full preview of the Championships by clicking the link below.
The team had an unofficial practice session on Saturday and today is officially welcomed at the Opening Ceremony at the Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled to get underway from 1:30pm AEST and conclude at 3:00pm for the Welcome Reception where teams will be treated to a meal and mix with other bowlers from other countries.
Following the Welcome Reception, three official practice squads are scheduled and will get underway from 4pm AEST. Bowler’s will be able to get familiar with the oil patterns that will be in play for these championships which is a medium and long pattern that can be found by clicking the links at ABF Event HQ.

Team Australia is officially departing our homeland en route to Bangkok, Thailand, ready to kick off what promises to be an exciting campaign at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships!
Our athletes have started their journey today from various ports across the country, full of energy and determination as they head into one of the biggest international competitions of the year.
This weekend, the team will focus on settling in, with arrivals and an unofficial practice session ahead of the Opening Ceremony and official practice early next week. The real action begins on Tuesday with the first event!
