After 6 days of individual competition at the 2026 National Junior Championships, the team format takes centre stage. Nine teams – five boys, four girls – opened their Shield campaigns across eight games today at Suncity Tenpin.

🌅Morning Session (Games 1-4)
Boys Division
South Australia took the early lead at the first break. SA finished the first session with 23 points, only 2.5 points clear of South Queensland.

☀️ Afternoon Session (Games 5–8)
Boys Division
The boys from Victoria made moves in the afternoon session moving up from third to lead the field at the conclusion of the first day.

📊 End of Day 1 Standings
⭐ Day 1 Individual Highlights
- Representing South Queensland as a draftee, Luca McPherson continued his hot form from the Junior Australian Masters to finish Day 1 as the top male bowler on average. Bowling all eight games for a 6-win, 2-loss production, Luca is currently averaging an incredible 231.9 – making an immediate impact on debut as a Shield draftee.
- TBA Junior Classic Cup champion Lachlan Spencer also carried his NJC26 form into the Shield, finishing Day 1 in second place on the male average standings. The South Australian finished with six wins and two losses at an impressive 223 average, and also claimed the high game of the male division – a 289 in the sixth game.
- The female division saw Victorian Stephanie Jarrott finish on top of the average standings at the end of Day 1. Stephanie finished with an average of 203.9 across eight games, winning seven and losing one, and also claimed the high game of the female division – a 267 in the fifth game.
- Fellow Victorian Summah Bennett also impressed, averaging 196.4 for a 7-1 record on Day 1 – a performance good enough for second place in the female average standings. The two Victorians combining to push their team to the top of the female division standings at the close of play.
