Team Australia Ends IBF Para Bowling World Championships with GOLD and SILVER!

Team Australia wrapped up their campaign at the IBF Para Bowling World Championships with an incredible final day, adding another GOLD and SILVER to their tally.

Doubles Event

The final event of the Championships, the Doubles event, saw athletes compete in pairs over six games. Not only were medals on the line for doubles, but performances also contributed to the All-Events standings, determining the most consistent bowlers across the Championships.

Men’s Doubles GOLD

Kallan Strong and Tyler Allen delivered an extraordinary performance to claim GOLD in the Men’s TPB4 Doubles event.

The duo set the tone early with a combined 469 in game one, the highest of the field in the opening game.

In game two, Tyler Allen posted an incredible 274, the second highest individual score of the Championships (279 from Robin Liungkvist  from Sweden in Singles) , contributing to a combined 502, creating an insurmountable lead.

Kallan remained consistently brilliant, scoring over 200 in five of six games and averaging 226. Tyler matched his teammate’s excellence, averaging 208.33.

Their combined six-game total of 2,606 secured the gold by 120 pins over Malaysia (2,486), with Sweden (2,405) claiming bronze.

Other Men’s Performances

• Matthew Hurst and Ashley Poelstra finished in 5th place with a total of 2,337, just 68 pins shy of bronze. Ashley had his best event of the Championships, averaging 204.17.

Women’s Doubles Highlights

• Amanda Threlfall and Courtney Bucknell narrowly missed the podium, finishing in 4th place with a total of 2,019, just 45 pins behind bronze medallists Singapore.
• Dianne Demello and Kate Juillerat displayed resilience, finishing their campaign in 7th place with a total of 1,709.

All-Events SILVER for Kallan Strong

The All-Events standings combined scores across Singles, Doubles, and Teams, with 16 games determining the final results.

• Kallan Strong secured SILVER with a total pinfall of 3,585, averaging an exceptional 224.06.
• Kallan’s consistency across all events saw him medal in every discipline: 2 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
• He finished just 161 pins behind the gold medalist, Abg Yahya Abg Azhar (Malaysia), and narrowly ahead of Korea’s Sang Seung Yun in third.

• Matthew Hurst: 10th place – 2,975
• Ashley Poelstra: 13th place – 3,029

Women’s All-Events Results

• Amanda Threlfall: 7th place – 2,744
• Courtney Bucknell: 8th place – 2,546
• Dianne Demello: 15th place – 2,226
• Kate Juillerat: 16th place – 2,228

Final Medal Tally

Team Australia finishes the Championships with five medals:

• 🥇 Men’s Teams – GOLD
• 🥇 Women’s Teams – GOLD
• 🥇 Men’s Doubles – GOLD
• 🥈 Men’s All-Events – SILVER
• 🥉 Men’s Singles – BRONZE

We are not totally sure if there are overall medals or awards but by our calculations:

• Team Australia finishes in second place on the female division standings of TPB4 winning one gold medal. Sweden finishes in first place with 3 gold and 2 silver.
• Team Australia finish tied in first place in the male division standings of TPB4 winning two gold medals, 1 silver, and one bronze.
• Team Australia finishes tied with Sweden in first position in the combined standings on three gold medals, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, with Sweden having the slight edge with one more silver than the Aussies.

All will be confirmed by the IBF at the Victory Banquet.

What’s Next?

The team will celebrate their success with some sightseeing in Hong Kong visiting Disneyland before attending the Victory Banquet on Friday night. Departures are scheduled for Saturday.
