The 2025 TBA Women’s Tournament season kicked off in dominant fashion, with Bek Martin continuing her winning ways by securing the Suncity Women’s Open title on the Sunshine Coast, QLD.

The Victorian 45 year-old was in unstoppable form, maintaining her lead across all three stages to claim the season’s first title in emphatic fashion.

Stage 1 – Qualifying

Martin made an early statement, firing a 232 in game two, followed by a 225 in game three, setting the pace in the 8-game qualifying block. Her consistency shone through, finishing with three 200+ games and a total of 1,615 pins, just enough to edge out her competition.

Only just.

Her “Bec Squared” teammate, Bec Whiting, was hot on her heels, finishing just 8 pins behind with 1,607, while senior division standout Dena Buxton showed age is just a number, securing third place with 1,577 pins.

Stage 2 – Top 16 Cut to 8

The top 16 bowlers returned on day two for four additional games to determine the top 8 matchplay finalists.

At the top, the standings remained unchanged, with Martin maintaining her lead. She continued her hot streak, rolling three 200+ games (253, 211, 257), pushing her total to 2,523—a 32-pin cushion over Whiting (2,391) and Buxton (2,368).

South Australian Jamie Phelan made a big move, climbing from 7th to 4th, thanks to three 200+ games, finishing with 2,367. Queensland’s Madeline FitzRoy secured the final matchplay spot, finishing on 2,312.

Stage 3 – Matchplay Finals

Martin wasted no time in the matchplay stage, opening with a tournament-high 268 in her first match.

She went on to record five 200+ games in the deciding phase, securing four matchplay wins and adding 80 bonus pins to her tally. By the end of the seven-match stage, Martin had accumulated 3,989 pins, finishing with an event total of 4,069 averaging 209.9, sealing her first victory of the 2025 season.

Senior division superstar Dena Buxton proved once again that she is among the best bowlers in the country—period. Winning six out of seven matchplay matches, Buxton secured second place, just 91 pins behind Martin, with a total of 3,978.

South Australian 24-year-old Jamie Phelan rounded out the podium in third place, finishing with 3,862, winning five of her matchplay matches.
