Leading Senior Bowlers Set for Brunswick Invitational Showdown

The 2026 national ranking series rolls into Greater Western Sydney this weekend, as Bowlarama Wetherill Park hosts the 2026 Brunswick Seniors Invitational.
The 2026 Brunswick Seniors Invitational sees Bowlarama Wetherill Park welcome a talented field of Senior and Grand Senior competitors from across the country this weekend.
Running from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July, the event is the fourth stop on the 2026 TBA Senior and Grand Senior nationally ranked calendar and the final event before the TBA50 National Masters. Across three days, competitors will complete 18 games over two appearances, with four champions to be crowned across the Senior and Grand Senior male and female divisions.
With three national ranking events already in the books, this weekend’s results could reshape the standings ahead of the TBA50 National Masters.

Why this event matters
The Brunswick Seniors Invitational debuted in 2023 and has quickly become a major fixture on the national calendar.
Now in its fourth edition, its straightforward total-pinfall format places premium on sustained performance. Every competitor completes 18 games across two sessions, with no matchplay, stepladder or final to recover through. The bowlers producing the highest pinfall in each of the four divisions will be crowned champion.
The event has already produced several memorable results. Ashley Riley won the first two Senior Male titles in 2023 and 2024 before Adam Hayes broke through for his first Invitational crown last year. Sue Cassell claimed the inaugural Senior Female title, Dena Buxton followed in 2024, and Samantha Matthews secured a signature victory in 2025.
This year’s competition also arrives at an important point in the rankings season. Three events have been completed, leaving the Brunswick Seniors Invitational and TBA50 National Masters to determine the final shape of the four divisional races.
Key Storylines to Watch
Matthews and Buxton Separated by Three Points
The Senior Female rankings could hardly by tighter heading into Wetherill Park.
Defending Brunswick champion Samantha Matthews leads the standings with 203 points, just three ahead of Dena Buxton on 200. Matthews claimed her first Brunswick title in 2025 after producing a strong finish to defeat Buxton by 134 pins, while Buxton returns as the 2024 event champion and the most recent winner on the national circuit after taking out the SA Seniors Classic in May. At the time of writing, Samantha Matthews will be absent from play this weekend opening the door for Dena and others to mix the standings up before the end of the weekend.
Mary Dodds is one bowler that remains close in the standings on 172 points, followed by Christine Clark on 166 and Jo Babic on 160. Buxton, Clark and Babic all finished inside the top three at the most recent event, with Clark and Babic sharing second place at Bowland Salisbury.
With only 43 points separating the top five, one strong weekend could significantly reshape the standings before the final event of the season.
Hayes Chasing Consecutive Victories
Andrew Thorpe remains the Senior Male rankings leader with 226 points after winning the opening two events of the season.
However, Adam Hayes has closed the gap considerably. Hayes sits second on 180 points after winning the SA Seniors Classic, where he overturned a 75-pin overnight deficit and finished with 3,576 at an average of 223.5. He now returns to defend the Brunswick title he captured in 2025 with 4,047 across 18 games and a 224.8 average.
Ashley Riley sits third in the rankings on 161 points and carries an unmatched record at this event. The Tasmanian won the inaugural Brunswick Seniors Invitational in 2023 and successfully defended the title in 2024 before finishing outside the podium last year.
Alan Notman is fourth on 153 points, while Warren Stewart rounds out the top five on 114 following his runner-up finish at the SA Seniors Classic. With Thorpe, Hayes and Riley occupying the first three ranking positions, Wetherill Park shapes as another important chapter in an intriguing season-long battle.
Burton-Douglas and Flynn Continue Grand Senior Battle
Jennifer Burton-Douglas and Robyn Flynn have opened a sizable advantage at the top of the Grand Senior Female standings.
Burton-Douglas leads with 245 points, only ten ahead of Flynn on 235. Robyn Bull occupies third place on 160, followed by Heather Robertson on 150 and Julie Harrison on 145.
Robertson earned maximum Grand Senior ranking points at the SA Seniors Classic after finishing fourth overall in the Senior Female field, while Burton-Douglas and Flynn have remained the most consistent performers across the entire season.
Morgan Leads a Deep Grand Senior Male Field
Graeme Morgan enters the weekend at the top of the Grand Senior Male rankings with 238 points.
Jim Karakostas sits second on 193 after producing an outstanding performance at the SA Seniors Classic. Karakostas finished fifth in the overall male field with 3,345 and collected maximum Grand Senior ranking points, continuing his climb towards the top of the standings.
David Farquharson is third on 178 points, followed by Andrew Campbell on 160 and Mick Talevski on 145. Campbell and Talevski finished second and third respectively among the Grand Senior competitors in Salisbury, ensuring the leading five arrive in strong form.
Format
All bowlers will complete 18 games in their allocated squad across two appearances:
- First appearance: Ten games across five two-game blocks
- Second appearance: Eight games across four two-game blocks
After every squad has completed its 18 games, the bowlers with the highest total pinfall in each division will be crowned champions.
