The third nationally ranked event for the 2024 Women’s division is set to heat up the lanes this weekend with the Suncity Women’s Open at the AGL National High-Performance Centre on the Sunshine Coast.
Taking place from August 24-25, this major event returns to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, following its successful debut last year. The competition will be intense, with a three-stage format spread over two days, challenging bowlers to bring their A-game.
Stage 1 will see all participants compete in 8 games, aiming to secure a spot in the top 12 and advance to Stage 2. Those who make the cut will then battle it out over 4 additional games, with only the top 8 moving on to the Matchplay finals. With pinfall carrying throughout the tournament, the top 8 will face off in 7 games of head-to-head Matchplay, where bonus pins can make all the difference in crowning this year’s champion.
One absentee in the chase for the title will be Australian representative and inaugural champion of the event, Bec Whiting. The Victorian suffered an injury at the recent ANC tournament and continues her recovery in preparation for the Asian Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, next month.
With a new champion to be crowned, competition will be fierce with many of Australia’s top-ranked bowlers eyeing both the title and the impressive prize money on offer. The event’s excitement has been further amplified by a recent announcement that Tenpin Bowling Australia has partnered with Corner Pin Standings (CPS), who have stepped in as the event promoter. CPS has not only increased the grand prize to $2,000 but also introduced two additional incentives—$400 bonuses for the Highest Placed Junior and Highest Placed Senior.
The Suncity Women’s Open promises to be an electrifying event, and we wish all bowlers the best of luck and high scores this weekend!
