Pocket Preview: Brunswick Seniors Invitational 2024

Get ready for an exciting weekend of tenpin bowling as the second annual Brunswick Seniors Invitational kicks off tonight at Bowlarama Wetherill Park, New South Wales.

This fourth senior nationally ranked event for 2024 promises to deliver top-notch competition, drawing elite bowlers from across the country for a showdown of talent and precision. There will be three squads on show throughout the weekend with over 100 bowlers expected to attend the event.

Leading the charge in the female division is Samantha Matthews from Western Australia, who currently tops the rankings with 235 points. Matthews has shown remarkable consistency and skill this season, making her a strong contender for the title.

In the male division, all eyes will be on Alan Notman from Victoria, who holds a narrow lead with 166 points. Notman’s highlights this season includes consistent performances and claiming his first nationally ranked event title at the SA Seniors Classic, and he will be looking to maintain his edge over the competition this weekend. Also returning to defend his title is Ashley Riley, last year’s champion, who remains within the top three of the rankings and will look for history to repeat on the weekend after triumphing in the inaugural event last year.

The Grand Senior categories will also see intense competition, with Julie Harrison leading the female division with a perfect 300 points and David Farquharson topping the male division with 226 points.

The format of the tournament is straightforward: all bowlers will compete in 18 games, divided into two appearances. The bowler in each division with the highest pinfall at the end of all squads will be crowned the champion of the Brunswick Seniors Invitational.

Adding to the challenge, a 42 ft oil pattern will be laid down for the tournament, testing the skills and adaptability of the competitors.

Bowlarama Wetherill Park, situated 34 kilometres west of Sydney’s Central Business District in Greater Western Sydney, is hosting its second nationally ranked event after successfully staging the inaugural event last year. This venue promises to provide an exceptional experience for both participants and spectators. 

With defending champions returning and new contenders rising, the Brunswick Seniors Invitational is set to be a thrilling weekend of bowling action where some of the best senior bowlers in the country compete for glory.
