The highly anticipated inaugural Sunshine State Showdown is set to roll into action at the AGL National High-Performance Centre on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.

Eagerly awaiting the event are junior and youth bowlers, who will compete in two nationally ranked competitions.

Echoing the energy of the Sydney BowlFest earlier this year, the Sunshine State Showdown promises exciting competition with both junior and youth bowlers vying for two distinguished titles at the same time, under the same roof.

Junior bowling enthusiasts will be contending for the TBA18 Cup, marking the grand finale of the junior-ranked events for 2023. Meanwhile, their older counterparts will be aiming for the TBA21 Cup. This cup, previously known as the National Youth Cup, got a fresh name last year and is ready for its 21st edition in 2023.

The festivities kick off with two official practice sessions on Friday evening. Over 60 promising talents have registered for this inaugural spectacle. The competition officially sets in motion on Saturday, 23rd September and will reach its thrilling conclusion on Sunday afternoon.

All participants will roll 9 games in 3 blocks for qualifying rounds. Post-Saturday’s qualifiers:

  • TBA18 Cup – The competition narrows to the Top 12 bowlers of each gender, progressing to stage 2.
  • TBA21 Cup – A sharper cut, with only the Top 8 for each gender progressing straight to the finals.

In Stage 2 of the TBA18 Cup, the top 12 players will bowl four additional games. Pinfall scores will carry over, and the top 8 of each gender will then advance to the heart-pounding finals.

This thrilling final series will adopt a single-game, double-elimination bracket format. A player will exit the competition after two match losses, and those left standing will emerge as champions of their respective events.

But that’s not all! As a climactic end to the event, the top 3 of each gender from both cups will participate in an All-Star bonus event. An exhilarating showdown is on the horizon as TBA18 and TBA21 All-Stars face off in a three-person baker format. Victors in each match pocket a cool bonus prize of $600.

We thank our event sponsors BPD Bowling Australia who will provide the Rising Star Awards for the event with bowling balls awarded to the highest placed un15 boy and girl and high game outside the top 8 cut.

TBA will also be trying to stream parts of the event through its YouTube account, you can follow along here – https://www.youtube.com/@tenpinbowlingaustralia

Tenpin Bowling Australia wishes all bowlers the best of luck and high scoring on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.
