Queensland’s Jarrod Langford Bowls Perfect Game at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships

In a stunning display of skill and composure, Queensland’s Jarrod Langford delivered a magical performance in the Singles event at the 27th MWA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships, bowling a perfect game and securing the top score in his squad. His exceptional effort has placed him in a strong position for a medal, with just one squad remaining.
Competing in the third of four squads, Langford wasted no time in establishing himself as a standout contender in these Championships. He posted an impressive six-game series total of 1,391, with the highlight being a perfect 300 game in his final game of the block. This remarkable feat makes Langford only the sixth male bowler to achieve a perfect game at the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships since the current scoring system was adopted in 2019.
Averaging 231.83 across his six games, Langford currently sits in silver medal position, trailing only Malaysian superstar Rafiq Ismail, who leads the event with a series of 1,419. With just the fourth and final squad left to compete, Langford’s medal hopes hang in the balance as the final scores come in later today.
The final squad of the Singles event kicks off at 12:00 pm AEST today. While no Australians will be competing in this final squad, all eyes will be on the scoreboard as Australia waits to see if Jarrod can hold on to a medal in the first event of these Championships.
Jarrod’s teammate in Squad 3, Scott Robertson, also performed admirably in his debut for Australia, posting a series of 1,162 with a standout 245-game highlight.
Earlier in the day, in Squad 2, Jordan Dinham delivered a stellar performance, finishing third in his squad with a 1,332 series, just 87 pins shy of the overall leader, Rafiq Ismail. Fellow Aussie Callum Borck finished with a total of 1,184, securing 16th place in the squad.
In the women’s division, Alicia Melton and Jenny Notman battled through the second squad, with Alicia finishing on 1,071 and Jenny close behind at 1,035. In the third squad, the “Bec Squared” duo of Bec Whiting and Bek Martin kicked off their campaigns, with Whiting finishing in 8th place in the squad on 1,162, just ahead of Martin, who posted a solid 1,122.
South Australia’s Jamie Phelan was the top performer of the Aussie Women in the Singles event. Bowling in the first squad, Phelan scored 1,186 in her six games, placing her 23rd in the Women’s Combined with one squad left.
As we eagerly await the final results of the Singles event, the next phase of the Championships begins this afternoon. The first Australian pairings, determined by Head Coach Don Lindsay and Assistant Coach Colin Linton will be communicated on our Championships Hub once confirmed from the ground.
The Doubles event will continue tomorrow, with more squads scheduled to compete.
