Strike Force: The Dinham Brothers Take Over the NSW Regional Bowling Tour

Family. Focus. Fierce Competition.

The 2025 NSW Regional Bowling Tour has passed the halfway point, and one storyline has taken centre stage — the Dinham brothers’ dominance.

Now in its fifth year, the NSW Regional Bowling Tour (NSWRBT) features ten events and has grown steadily since its inception in 2021.

At the recent Windsor Tenpin Bowling Open, the podium told a remarkable story: Julian Dinham (3rd), Jordan Dinham (2nd), and Justin Dinham (1st). Three brothers. Three medals. One unforgettable family moment.

“It felt good for all of us to be on the podium — none of us really felt like we didn’t perform well,” said Jordan. “Yes, it would’ve been great if I won, but I’m happy to share the podium with them. We came close earlier this year at the Canberra Open, where Julian won, I came second, and Justin was fourth.”

It’s the latest milestone in a journey that began more than a decade ago in western Sydney — shaped by a rich cultural mix, with a Filipino mother and a father born in Australia to British and Irish parents, backyard rivalries, and a shared love of the lanes.

Their sweep at Windsor isn’t just a feel-good tale — it’s a testament to years of hard work, family support, and elite talent emerging from one household.

Mid-Year Recap: Dinham by Name, Dominant by Nature

Five events into the ten-event tour, the Dinham name has become a fixture on leaderboards:

• 🥇 Julian Dinham kicked off the season by winning the Canberra Open, with Jordan finishing 2nd and Justin 4th.
• 🥇 Clayton Marks grabbed gold at the Griffith Open.
• 🥇 Julian claimed his second win at the Zambo Cup, with Justin finishing 3rd.
• 🥇 Julian teamed up with Geoff Wong to win the Metro Mixed Division Doubles.
• 🥇 And then came Windsor, where all three brothers filled the podium in a true family affair.

Climbing the Rankings

At just 17, Julian Dinham has had a breakout season — winning two of the most prestigious open-ranked events: the Melbourne Tenpin Cup and the Australian Tenpin Bowling Open, plus a runner-up finish at the Kegel QLD Open. He currently leads both the Open and Youth national rankings and sits second in Junior.

Justin isn’t far behind — ranked 2nd in Youth and 4th in Open. Jordan, the eldest, continues to push upward and currently holds 9th in the Open division.

All three were recently selected for TBA’s restructured High Performance Squads, with Julian and Justin in Youth, and Jordan in Open.

“I’m feeling really good about how I’m performing,” said Julian. “Countless hours have gone into sparing and targeting practice. It’s made it easier to adapt to different types of oil patterns and conditions.”

As for goals for the rest of 2025? They’re big — and bold.

“I’m going to try and top all three rankings — Junior, Youth, and Open,” Julian declared.

“Win multiple events and, if possible, see me and my brothers all on the same podium again,” added Justin.

“Hopefully win a ranked event — and beat Julian, since he’s been killing it recently,” laughed Jordan.

Brothers Built for Bowling

While they’re now national-level athletes, the Dinham brothers’ journey began with something much simpler: a cricket injury — and a bit of sibling curiosity.

Jordan, the eldest, first took up bowling in 2009 at just seven years old.

“I was playing cricket but didn’t love getting hit by the ball,” he recalled. “Bowling became the sport I enjoyed more — and I just loved the game straight away.”

From there, it became a family affair.

“I got into bowling because Jordan was already doing it,” said Justin. “Seeing the pins fly and hearing the sound of a perfect strike — that hooked me in.”

“I got into bowling because of Jordan,” explained Julian. “From the moment I first threw the ball with two hands, I was hooked. I thought it looked cool, and it felt good doing something others found hard.”

Training Together, Competing Apart

The brothers now train three times a week, clocking 1.5 to 2 hours per session — sometimes longer. Their sessions are structured and often led by coach Tenpin Bowling Australia Hall of Famer, Chris Batson, who tailors programs to each of their strengths and weaknesses.

“Chris helps identify areas we need to improve — like spare shooting, release timing, or understanding the differences between balls in our arsenal,” said Julian. “We also work with each other to help fine-tune things.”

Despite their shared goals, there’s no shortage of competitive fire.

“We all want to be on the top step of the podium,” Julian added. “It can’t happen — but it drives us.”

“Coming out on top is the most rewarding part,” said Justin. “You get bragging rights for the next few weeks.”

“Julian tries to turn everything into a competition,” Jordan joked. “But honestly, we just try to out bowl each other and accept whoever was best on the day.”

At home, the focus is more about support than rivalry.

“Any one of us can be the best on any given day,” said Justin. “But no matter who finishes where, we always support each other.”

No Bumpers, No Excuses

Their mum, Cherrie Dinham, reflected on the early days with pride — and a touch of humour.

“None of the boys used bumpers,” Cherrie Dinham said. “I wanted them to be taught the right way from the start. Some people thought it was cruel — but they were naturals.

She recalls a moment early in Jordan’s journey when his first coach, Darryl Gardner, quickly recognised his potential.

“I still remember when Darryl saw Jordan bowl for the first time. He kicked the bumpers off and said, ‘He doesn’t need it – he’s a natural’”.

From local leagues at Strathfield Superbowl and Lidcombe Saturday Tenpin Terriers to standing on national podiums, the Dinham brothers have grown into three of Australia’s brightest bowling stars — and they’re just getting started.

What’s Next for the Dinham’s?

With four events still to come on the NSW Regional Bowling Tour, and the final stretch of the national ranked event season approaching -the Dinham brothers are in prime position to finish strong.

In the NSW Regional Bowling Tour standings, it’s a clean sweep at the top: Julian leads the way in first, followed by Jordan in second and Justin in third.

Their dominance across Junior, Youth, and Open rankings nationally only strengthens the story.
