Take Two: Kegel Queensland Open Returns in 2025

After a false start earlier this year due to Cyclone Alfred, the Kegel Queensland Open is back and ready to roll — take two!

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the popular national tournament returns to Caboolture Bowl from 9–11 May 2025, marking a milestone moment for an event that’s been a staple on the Australian bowling calendar since its 2011 debut.

This year’s edition features four fully booked qualifying squads (A–D) across Friday and Saturday, with 27 bowlers in each, setting the stage for a high-stakes weekend.

Tournament Format:

• Qualifying (Stage 1): All bowlers will compete in 12 games across their squads. The top 27, determined by total pinfall across all squads, advance to Stage 2.
• Stage 2: These qualifiers will bowl an additional 6 games, with their pinfall from Stage 1 carrying over. The top 15 performers then move to Stage 3.
• Stage 3 – Tri-Matchplay: The top 15 will compete in a Tri-Matchplay format, bowling in groups of three per game. Bonus pins are awarded based on match results: 40 for first, 20 for second, and 0 for third. Ties adjust the bonuses: 30 pins shared for a first-place tie, 10 pins each for a second-place tie, and 20 pins split among all three for a three-way tie.
• Stepladder Final: After Stage 3, the field narrows to the top 5 bowlers, who will battle it out in a stepladder final to crown the champion. This replaces the ‘Football Final format’ previously held at Caboolture.

Notable Competitors:

• Defending champion Justin Dinham, who won in 2024 alongside runner-up Blake Walsh, returns to defend his title. He’ll be joined by brothers Jordan and Julian Dinham, making it a family affair and youngest brother Julian leads the way in the open division after his Australian Tenpin Bowling Open victory.
• Four-time winner Jarrod Langford is back, aiming for a fifth title since his last victory in 2021.
• Two-time champion Sam Cooley returns home to participate in his first national event for 2025.
• Past champions George Frilingos, Alicia Melton, Adam Hayes, and Brendan Meads are also in the mix, promising a thrilling showdown.

With over $25,000 in prize money, fans are welcome at Caboolture Bowl to take in the action or tune into Cabbowl Live, the streaming station on YouTube for the event.
