Team Australia has won their first medal at the 23rd Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championship in Malaysia, with ‘Team Emily’ claiming the bronze in the girls doubles event.

The dynamic duo of South Australia’s Emily Hart and North Queenslander Emily Hinspeter delivered a stellar performance, especially in the final stretch of the six-game event.

Emily Hart’s mammoth sixth game score of 259 was pivotal in solidifying their place on the podium but both Emilies demonstrated incredible skill and composure throughout the event to achieve the outcome.

With an event-high combined game score of 451, Team Emily propelled themselves into the medals after trailing by just six pins with one game to go. Hart finished with an impressive average of 209.83, the second highest of the event. Hinspeter was equally superb, scoring big when her teammate couldn’t, showcasing their excellent teamwork and averaging 192.5.

This marks the first medal in a girls doubles event at an Asian Junior Championship since 2018, when Ivy Dickinson and Emily Johnston claimed silver in Chinese Taipei.

Team Australia performed strongly in this second official event of the Championship, with the pairing of Shanae Key and Vanessa Hannigan finishing in 9th place—a commendable result for the team.

As we look forward to the Team of Four event, the All-Event race is heating up. Team Australia has three girls above the top 16 cut line with one event remaining. Emily Hart sits in 7th position, Emily Hinspeter in 9th position while another Australian making their debut, Vanessa Hannigan sits in 13th position. Jessica Chi, who had a strong showing in the singles competition, sits in 19th place in the All-Events and only 12 pins away from the cut line.

Two events down, and next up is the Team of Four event, which begins tomorrow at 11 am AEST.

Earlier in the day, the pairing of Sean Lam and Kohan Davis were the top-performing pair in the boys doubles event, finishing in 4th place, just 2 pins away from a bronze medal. William Zaccaria and Julian Dinham sit 6th and 7th respectively in the boys All-Events race and are in a strong position to qualify for the boys top 16 masters event.
