Team Australia Selected for 2025 IBF World Championships

Tenpin Bowling Australia (TBA) is proud to announce the athletes selected to represent Australia at the 2025 IBF World Championships in Hong Kong, China later this year.
Organised by the International Bowling Federation (IBF) and the Hong Kong, China Tenpin Bowling Congress (HKCTBC), the championships will take place at the brand-new, state-of-art Top Bowl, Kai Tak Sports Park, Kowloon.
Australia’s Road to Qualification
Australia competes as part of the Oceania Bowling Federation (OBF) alongside New Zealand, Guam, and Saipan.
Only one place was on offer for the region, with Australia securing the coveted spot after outperforming rivals New Zealand and Guam at the 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, in September last year.
This qualification ensures Australia will compete among the best in the world across both men’s and women’s divisions.
Selection Process
Selections were determined through an expression of interest process open to athletes within TBA’s High Performance Squads (HPS). From there, a panel chose six female and six male athletes, the maximum team size permitted for the championships.
Selections were based on:
- Consistent national and international performances
- Commitment to the HPS program
- Alignment with IBF competition standards
All selected athletes are active members of the HPS, which focuses on consistency, athlete development, and preparing bowlers for international success.
Team Australia – 2025 IBF World Championships
The Global Stage
The IBF World Championships will feature 32 men’s teams and 32 women’s teams from across the globe. Qualification was determined by each federations performance at regional and international events.
Qualified Teams by Zone:
- Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) – 10 of 33 Federations
- Bowling Federation of Africa (BFA) – 2 of 7 federations
- European Bowling Federation (EBF) – 12 of 43 federations
- Oceania Bowling Federation (OBF) – 1 of 4 federations
- Pan American Bowling Confederation (PANAM) – 7 of 24 federations
Competition Format
The championships open on 24 November 2025, with competition running until 6 December. Athletes will contest medals in four disciplines, all under the Baker format for team-based events:
- Singles
- Doubles (Baker Format)
- Trios (Baker Format)
- Team (Baker Format)
TBA CEO Kurt Wilson said: “Selection to represent your country is one of the highest honours in sport. This team showcases the strength of our High-Performance program and the depth of talent we have in Australia. We are proud of each athlete chosen and look forward to seeing them compete on the world stage in Hong Kong.”
“This is a strong group of athletes who have proven themselves on national or international stages,” added HPS Head Coach Cam Walsh who will help lead the team in Hong Kong. “We’re excited to see what they can achieve in Hong Kong.”
