Two NSW Bowlers Awarded Prestigious 2025 Commonwealth Games NSW Athlete Grants

Tenpin Bowling Australia proudly congratulates Joshua Buttigieg and Brianna Walsh, this year’s recipients of the Commonwealth Games NSW Athlete Grants.  

The two bowlers are amongst 36 athletes from 19 different sports – predominantly from country and regional areas of the State – who will each receive a $1,000 grant from Commonwealth Games NSW in recognition of outstanding progress and talent in their chosen sport.

Joshua Buttigieg, hailing from Buxton, and Brianna Walsh, from West Ballina, were nominated through the Tenpin Bowling NSW pathway programs.  Impressively, Brianna continues a family tradition, replicating the achievement of her older brother, Blake, who previously received the award.

“The CGNSW Athlete Grant Program began in 2016 and has supported 205 young NSW athletes to date,” explained Commonwealth Games NSW CEO, Peter Tate.  “These young athletes are progressing well in their respective sports, and I’m hopeful many will go on to represent Australia at future Commonwealth Games,” he added.

The sport of tenpin bowling in Australia has maintained close links with the Commonwealth Games movement since its historic multi-gold medal performance at the XVI Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.  Officials from Commonwealth Games NSW, the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation, TBA and Tenpin Bowling NSW will be amongst dignitaries invited to attend the formal awards presentation during Sydney’s Bowlfest in October where Joshua and Brianna will be honoured in the presence of their families, friends and fellow bowlers.
