2025 Suncity Women’s Open Preview

The Tenpin Bowling Australia (TBA) Women’s Division is set to kick off its 2025 tournament season this weekend with the highly anticipated Suncity Women’s Open, hosted at the AGL National High-Performance Centre/ Suncity Tenpin on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Now in its third year, the Suncity Women’s Open has quickly established itself as a highlight on the bowling calendar. After its successful debut in 2023, the event underwent a significant evolution last year, with Corner Pin Standings partnering with TBA in August 2024 to manage the tournament moving forward. This collaboration has ensured the event’s growth and prominence in showcasing the best female bowlers from across the country against the stellar backdrop of the Sunshine Coast.

Stage one will see all bowlers compete in eight games on Saturday to post their highest pinfall totals, aiming to secure a spot in the top 12 and advance to the second stage.

On Sunday, the top 12 bowlers will return for stage two, bowling an additional four games, with their pinfall totals carrying over from stage one. From here, the competition will intensify as the field narrows down to the top 8 bowlers, who will advance to the thrilling Matchplay Finals.

In the finals, the top 8 will battle it out over seven games of Matchplay, with bonus pins awarded – 20 pins for a win and 10 pins for a draw – making every frame crucial as they vie for the championship title.

While Logan City’s Minhee Kim, the 2024 champion, will not return to defend her crown, the event will feature a lineup of bowlers spanning across Junior, Youth, Adult, and Senior divisions. Among them is inaugural champion Bec Whiting, whose decorated career continues to inspire, as she looks to add yet another accolade to her impressive collection.
